Before Marrakesh became the style of the moment, Mohamed Elmarrouf and Stephanie Rudloe have been bringing classic exotic Moroccan decor to interiors in New York City, LA , Chicago and even Australia, Scotland and Hong Kong. Since 1968 Mohamed, the son of a Marrakech rug merchant, has been procuring Beni Ouarain carpets for clients among the tribes of the Atlas mountains. Imports from Marrakesh offers classic and custom Moroccan decor to clients from its online shop www.importsfrommarrakesh.com, New York area warehouse, and by international shipment direct from the artisans of Marrakesh.
Imports from Marrakesh is an experienced pioneer in the artisanal design movement, giving individuals, designers and architecture firms direct access to traditional North African decor crafts via the internet. Stephanie, a stylist with a fine art background, began working with Mohamed in 1998, and is the creative force propelling the company, which began as a souk in the Chelsea Market, into a multi-faceted virtual operation through her delicate editing of Moroccan decor to suit current trends in the design world. The most popular items in the collection include Beni Ouarain carpets (vintage & new ), Moroccan wedding blankets, poufs, tea trays and Marrakesh Tiles & Zillij Tiles, all featured on the website.
Adventurous clients join us at our Ryad www.ryadelmaarouf.com in Marrakech for custom design projects while others voyage across the Hudson river to visit our new warehouse in Jersey City. Over the past year, Imports from Marrakesh moved from the Chelsea Market to online. The stay-at-home design savvy client haggles for Beni Ouarain carpets via phone order or shops for poufs @ www.importsfrommarrakeshshop.com.
Imports from Marrakesh also collaborates on custom designs for architects, interior designers and individuals. We oversee the creation of custom-order zillij tile, embroidery, moucharabi woodwork, and lighting for international design projects. We specialize in producing and delivering Moroccan decor for a wide variety of residential and commercial projects. Recent projects include intricate hand-carved plaster arches for Vosges Haut Chocolat in Beverly Hills (inspired by Alberto Pinto),
celadon zillij tile for Sara Story Design ( had to do the order twice to obtain the right shade of green), a quest for Morocco red goatskins for Peter Marino architects ( to make into wall paneling), and special poufs for the bar at the Hotel Alfonso XIII in Seville, Spain (we trucked them over from Marrakesh).
Imports from Marrakesh collaborates with designers and master artisans to create Moroccan style for interiors and landscape architecture. Each project is collaboration between our artisan workshops and the creative vision of our clients.
